Wimberley Tree Service
Owner operated, locally owned, and based in Wimberley. Santos is an ISA Certified Arborist, he quotes the job himself, and the same small crew carries it out.
Santos Bonilla
Santos grew up on twenty acres in the Texas Hill Country and learned to prune, remove and clear trees as a young man. He went on to start a landscaping company in Texas, then spent four years working alongside a certified arborist while attending Oregon State University. He is an ISA Certified Arborist himself, certified by the International Society of Arboriculture in September 2026, certificate TX-390690A.
He is back in Wimberley now running Wimberley Tree Service, and his clients tend to say the same thing: it is a relief having one reliable local person to deal with rather than a call center and a rotating crew.
If you want a straight answer about a tree, including when the answer is that it does not need any work, that is what you will get. See tree health and maintenance for how that assessment works.

Why owner operated matters here
Tree work is one of those trades where the gap between a good outfit and a bad one is enormous and largely invisible until afterwards. A crew that tops your oaks leaves you with a structurally compromised tree that looks fine for five years. A crew that drops a limb wrong takes out a fence, a roof or worse.
Santos quotes the job, is on the job, and is the person you call if something is not right. There is no estimator selling work that a subcontracted crew then has to deliver, and no rotating faces who have never seen your property before. You can see the full range of tree services we offer and the areas we cover.
What we will tell you
When a tree does not need removing. When the work being asked for is not the work the tree actually needs. When something is outside what we do, which includes fungicide treatments, planting, cabling and bracing, and stump grinding.
Turning work down is not good salesmanship but it is the reason people call back, and it is why most of our work comes from people who were recommended by someone we have already worked for.
Insurance and safety
We carry $1,000,000 general liability insurance ($2,000,000 aggregate) through American Builders Insurance Company, and we will send the certificate before we start. It is worth asking anyone you call what theirs actually covers rather than assuming. Ask any tree company for that. The ones who hesitate are telling you something important.
The scope and the price, in writing, before we start
We walk the property, tell you what needs doing and what does not, and put a figure in writing. If the scope changes, we agree it with you before the extra work happens. If a tree can be saved with pruning rather than removed, we will say so, even though the removal is the bigger job.

Are you insured?
We carry $1,000,000 general liability insurance ($2,000,000 aggregate) through American Builders Insurance Company, and we will send the certificate before we start. Who is actually doing the work?
Santos quotes the job, is on the job, and is the person you call if something is not right. There is no estimator selling work that a subcontracted crew then has to deliver.
How do you take a tree down near my house?
In sections, rigged down on ropes rather than felled, with the drop zones and the order of cuts worked out before a saw starts. Rigging over structures is a good part of what we get called for.
What happens if something gets damaged?
That is what the insurance is for, and it is why we plan the takedown before we start rather than during. Tell us at the estimate about anything underneath that matters, including septic fields and irrigation.
Do you work around power lines?
We work safely near lines but we do not touch an energized line. If a tree is on one, call the utility first. Once it is cleared or de-energized we can take the tree.
More on looking after Hill Country trees
Doing this in one place, on the same ground, teaches you a few things worth writing down. We write up the questions that come up on jobs, including when oaks can safely be cut, what oak wilt actually looks like, why trees here fail after heavy rain, and what cedar clearing does and does not fix. It is all on the Wimberley Tree Service blog.
About Wimberley Tree Service TX

Wimberley Tree Service is a locally owned tree service company, owner operated, and the same small team does the work on every job. We are based in Wimberley TX and cover Hays County and the surrounding areas, including Dripping Springs, Driftwood, San Marcos, Kyle, Buda, Blanco, Bee Cave and Austin, with nearby areas across Comal and Blanco counties served on the same terms.
We work for homeowners, ranch and acreage owners, builders, clients and property managers, on both residential and commercial properties. Whether it is one dead tree in a back yard, dead limbs and branches over a driveway, or a whole fence line that has disappeared into cedar, the process is the same: we come out, look at it, and give you a written price that fits the unique needs of the property.
Every estimate is a free estimate, and we will tell you when we can get out to look. Scheduling the work itself is a separate thing: we run about a month booked out, and we will give you a real date rather than a hopeful one. Emergencies are the exception and are fitted in as soon as the crew can get there. We are $1M liability insured, we take great care to leave the job site clean, and we will tell you when a tree does not need the work you asked about.

A four person crew, and years of Hill Country tree work. The business has run under this name since April 2025. Orlyn and Matt climb, Aurelio works the ground, and Santos comes out on the jobs that need him. That is who turns up: the same small crew every time, not a subcontractor you have never met. Our minimum charge for a job is $500.
You get options, not one number. Every estimate is itemised and normally comes with three to five ways to approach the job, priced separately, so you can see what each part costs and choose the scope yourself. Most people find one of the middle options is the job they actually wanted. We work in English and Spanish.
