Woodcreek sits about a mile north of Wimberley on Ranch Road 12, which makes it one of the closest places we work. The yard is five or six miles from most of the city.
It is also the least like the rest of our area. Woodcreek is a platted city rather than acreage, incorporated in 1984 and built out from the 1970s around the original eighteen hole golf course. Lots are smaller, houses sit closer together, and that changes how a tree has to come down far more than most people expect.

Live oak, Ashe juniper, and a fifty year old landscape
Woodcreek has two populations of tree on the same lot. The native live oak and Ashe juniper that were there before the subdivision, and everything planted or left standing when the lots were cut in the seventies and eighties.
Where in Woodcreek we work
Across the whole city and the areas the POA covers. That takes in Woodcreek Phase II and its sections, The Brook at Woodcreek, Eagle Rock Heights and Eagle Rock Ranchitos, Brookmeadow to the north, Canyon Creek to the south, and the enclave over toward Oak Orchard. We are also regularly on the lots that back onto the golf course and down where Ranch Road 12 crosses Cypress Creek.
The Property Owners Association looks after common roads for something like 2,050 properties, so a lot of Woodcreek work involves a truck and a chipper parked on a road somebody else maintains. We treat that as part of the job rather than your problem.
The trees that came with the subdivision
Development started here in the seventies. Trees that were planted then, or left standing when the lots were cleared, are now somewhere between forty and fifty years old. For a fast grown landscape tree on a small lot that is the age when the structure it built early starts to show.
What we find most often is a tree with two competing stems that grew from the same point, with bark trapped in the union between them. It holds for decades and then splits, usually in wind and usually taking the better half of the canopy with it. On a Woodcreek lot the half that comes down has a roof or a fence under it. Caught early enough, reducing the weight on one of the two stems is a much smaller job than dealing with what happens after.
Access, and why it decides the price here
On acreage we can usually put the truck near the tree and drop timber where it lands. In Woodcreek that is rarely an option. The tree is between a house and a fence, there is a deck or a pool under it, and the only route out is the front drive.
So most of what we do here is rigging. Pieces are roped, lowered under control and carried out rather than felled. It is slower and it needs people who climb, which is the part worth asking any company about before you book. The practical questions we will ask you are what the gate width is, whether the chipper can sit on the road, and what is directly underneath the tree that cannot be moved.
Oak wilt does not stop at a property line
This is the one thing about Woodcreek trees that is genuinely different from the acreage around it. Live oaks growing near each other commonly fuse roots and share a connected system, and root to root spread through those connections is by far the most common way oak wilt moves. Beetles carrying spores to a fresh wound above ground are a real but secondary route.
On a platted subdivision the live oaks along a row of lots are often one connected system running straight across the boundaries. That means what happens to a tree two doors down is not somebody else’s problem, and it means a decision made on one lot has consequences for the neighbors either side.
Sap feeding beetles are most active in spring and are drawn to fresh oak wounds, so whatever the month we paint oak cuts promptly and clean tools between trees. Deadwood, broken limbs and genuinely hazardous work get dealt with whenever they happen, using the same procedure. Read oak tree trimming for the full protocol, or what oak wilt actually looks like if you think you already have it.
Trees on the golf course boundary
A good number of Woodcreek lots back onto the course. Those trees tend to be the tallest on the property, they have grown with light on one side only, and the limbs that matter are usually the ones reaching out over the fairway or the cart path rather than over the house.
Before we quote anything on that boundary we work out who we should be talking to, because ownership decides who can authorize the work. Where that is not clear it is worth settling with the other party, or with an attorney, before you get a price rather than after.
Permits, the city, and the POA
Woodcreek is its own municipality. It is not Wimberley and it is not unincorporated Hays County, so the rules that apply on your lot are not automatically the ones a neighbor a mile down Ranch Road 12 is working under. There may also be POA requirements on top of whatever the city asks for.
We confirm what a given property needs before we schedule the work rather than after, and we will tell you if something needs an approval we cannot get for you. Ask any company you are considering the same question, along with what their insurance actually covers. We carry $1,000,000 general liability and will send the certificate before we start, and you are entitled to ask any contractor for theirs and read the answer.
Our process
No call center and no chasing. Santos quotes the job himself and the same small crew carries it out.
Tell us what is going on
Call, text a photo, or send the form. A picture usually gives us a general idea of what is involved and whether we need to come and look.
We come and look
On a Woodcreek lot this matters. We check the gate, the drop zone, what is underneath and where the chipper can sit.
You get a written price
Agreed in writing before we start. Any change to that scope is discussed and approved before the extra work happens.
We do it and clean up
Brush chipped or hauled, logs cut to length, and the road and the drive left the way we found them.

Straight answers, including the ones about access and the neighbors.
Do you actually cover Woodcreek?
Yes, and it is one of the closest places we work. Woodcreek is about a mile north of Wimberley and five or six miles from the yard.
Can you even get equipment onto a Woodcreek lot?
Usually, and where we cannot the work is done by hand and by rope instead. The chipper normally sits on the road and the material is carried out to it. What we need to know up front is the gate width and whether there is a route down the side of the house.
My oak and my neighbor’s oak look connected. Does that matter?
It can matter a great deal. Live oaks growing close together often share a connected root system, and root to root spread is the most common way oak wilt moves. It is worth knowing what is happening on the lots either side of you before deciding what to do with your own tree.
Do I need permission from the city or the POA?
Possibly, and it depends on the property. Woodcreek is its own municipality with its own requirements, and the POA may have rules of its own. We confirm what applies before scheduling rather than turning up and finding out.
How much does tree removal cost in Woodcreek?
Access drives it more than size does here. The same tree costs less on an open lot than it does between a pool and a fence, because one can be felled and the other has to be rigged out piece by piece. You get the scope and the price in writing after we have looked, and any change to that scope is agreed with you first.
Tree care in Woodcreek, and how to get it right
Subdivision trees age differently.Trees planted or retained when a subdivision was cut tend to be a similar age across the whole neighborhood, so structural problems show up across a street within a few years of each other rather than one tree at a time. If a neighbor has lost a stem out of a live oak, it is worth having yours looked at.
Small lots change the method, not just the price.Removal on a confined lot is a rigging job rather than a felling job. Ask whoever you hire whether their crew climbs, because a company that only fells trees will either decline the work or take a risk with it.
Root systems run under the whole street.Roots here often spread wide rather than deep and reach well beyond the canopy edge, which on small lots means under fences, drives and the neighbor’s lawn. Trenching for a new fence or a pool is one of the more common causes of decline we see afterwards.
Shared boundaries need a conversation first. Where a tree sits close to a boundary, ownership and who can authorize the work are worth settling before anything is priced, whether the neighbor is another homeowner, the POA or the golf course. If it is not clear, that is a question for the parties involved or an attorney.
Check the insurance, not the promise. Ask any tree company for a certificate rather than a reassurance, and read what it actually covers. We carry $1,000,000 general liability and send the certificate before we start.
